Impact City LA, Making A Difference in a Time of COVID
There's something about people that go out of their way to work, bless and support others. Many may think they have more "good" in their heart, or that they think different, or have more to give, or just better people than others. The truth is, that's mostly not the case, and far from the truth. So why do people do good? Most of the time because they know what NEEDING is to begin with.
We were recently blessed by Impact City L.A., a church in Los Angeles led by Marcus and Brenda Rabb who were born and raised in the Los Angeles area. They have been married for 13 years now, have three beautiful children and have served local churches in Los Angeles as associate pastors during that time.
In Spring of 2017 they felt a stirring in their hearts to plant a church in the South Los Angeles area. Both raised in single parent homes, they understand that they’re only where they are today because of the impact of God’s love and grace on their lives. They want others to experience that same love and grace, which is why they started Impact City LA. - Check out their Laundry Love ministry - LOVE!!!
During the current COVID-19 pandemic, many people are frightened about their health, their finances and their future, with all good reasons. People are hunkering down, trying NOT to spend and trying to protect their finances first. So when Impact City LA reached out that they wanted to support and help with the urgent needs we are experiencing at The Orphaned Earring, we were caught by surprise! "Really?" "Why us?" After a few minutes we stopped questioning why and instead praised God for sending the help we needed through Impact City LA, and who didn't even know our needs yet.
Recently, the foster dad at the Rosarito, MX all-girl orphanage was diagnosed with liver cancer. He's an older man reaching his 90s and the only positive father figure the girls at this center know. He's the hunter and gatherer for the family, the one that puts food on the table and drives the girls around to their activities. So when ImpactCity LA came to our curb (because we are still social-distancing) to drop off a check, we didn't even know how to thank them! We were then reminded of a powerful PROMISE God has for ALL of us this:
Matthew 6:25-34
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Just as Marcus, Brenda and the rest of the members at Impact City LA, we can use our misfortune, disadvantages and shortcomings to praise God through then by being able to relate to those in need and doing something about it. We pray that God blesses Impact City LA church where the goal is to impact people that will impact the city with the love of God.
